DAVIDE BIGAZZI STUDIO Chasing & Repousse` Workshops

Come “apprentice” in the art of chasing & repousse' with Florentine master Davide Bigazzi at his studio and gallery located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Workshops are intensive, hands-on, individualized, and limited to four students. The studio setting and small classes guarantee a unique and effective environment for learning, as well as tailored instruction and maximum interaction between student and instructor. Both beginners and experienced students are welcome!

WorkshopS

The Art of Chasing & Repousse'- 5 days - $1200

Join Davide in his studio for five days of hands-on instruction in chasing & repousse’. This workshop emphasizes technique and its application to jewelry, hollowware, and/or model making. Class is both exercise and project based through individualized instruction, tailored to your ability and goals.  The process of making chasing tools will be covered, including age-old shapes that Florentine masters have used for centuries.

Materials (copper) & tools are supplied.

Cuff Bracelet Workshop - 3 Days - $575

The main focus of this workshop is the creation of a cuff bracelet by employing chasing, repousse', forging, & soldering.

Materials (copper) & tools are supplied. If you would like to bring sterling silver to work with please ask for size requirements.

Learn to forge and form high quality chasing tools including age-old shapes that Florentine masters have used for centuries.

Tool steel for 6 chasing tools included.

12 Hr Class Package - $335

Ongoing classes are by appointment & limited to 3 students. Class is both exercise and project based. Students are encouraged to work on and develop their own design ideas/projects. Purchased hours are valid for up to 6 months. A reservation at least a week in advanced is necessary to secure a spot.

Recommended Tools and Materials:

  • chasing hammer/s
  • copper sheet 6” x 6” - 22 gauge (One piece of copper will be supplied.)
  • 6”- 8” pitch bowl & pitch (If you do not have one, one will be supplied for use during class.)
  • chasing tools/punches - 12 piece set recommended (Punches will be available to share and use during class.)
  • eye protection (required)
  • tracing paper, pens, pencils
  • design ideas or samples

It is not necessary to bring tools to the workshop unless you want to use your own. If you are planning on investing in tools we recommend doing so after the workshop. You will learn a lot about what you do and don’t need.

Public Transportation - BART:

From SFO take BART to Millbrae, then take Caltrain to the Menlo Park station, depart station and turn left on El Camino Real. Turn right on Cambridge Ave. Continue straight until you reach the gates of the Allied Arts Guild (.4 mile) BART operates a shuttle train every 20 minutes between the Millbrae station and SFO. BART's SFO shuttle train is located on the easternmost track at the Millbrae station. All passengers must purchase a ticket before boarding. For  more information visit www.bart.gov.

Public Transportation from the San Jose Airport

take the VTA SJC Airport Flyer (Route 10) to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. The Airport Flyer is free and operates seven days a week from 5:30 am until midnight. Buses operate every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends. For more information visit the airport website www.sjc.org. From the Santa Clara station take the train to the Menlo Park Station. depart station and turn left on El Camino Real. Turn right on Cambridge Ave. Continue straight until you reach the gates of the Allied Arts Guild. (.4 mile)
